Provide Usable Evidence that Stands Up in Court

Milind Borkar, Infinova Vice President, Middle East, India and Africa

Images destined for use in a court of law must be obtained and processed using carefully documented procedures if they are to be allowed as evidence.  The documentation typically includes the name of the photographer, the date the image was obtained, the names of anyone who had access to the image before it was introduced in court, the names of anyone who enhanced or altered the image, whether the alteration was performed on the original file or a copy, and details of any enhancement procedures.

There are three variables in providing the type of recordings that the courts want–

  1. Encryption:   To safeguard the validity of recordings as evidence, information assurance measures must be taken to prevent the video data from being tampered with or altered.  Thus, video encryption of recorded images is necessary for court admissibility purposes.
  2. Frames per second:  Frame rates affect storage.  Full-motion video at 30 fps is seldom used because less may be sufficient.  Many times, administrators adjust frames per second for each camera based on its location and scenes.
  3. Resolution:  Being able to see the perpetrator clearly is imperative in order for the jury to be absolutely certain beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant is the person shown in the video.

AMG Launches New Website as Exciting New Product Range Takes the Market by Storm

AMG, the world leading manufacturer of transmission solutions and newly released sophisticated 5 megapixel cameras under the AMGPanogenics brand, have taken the consequence of their strategic move into new markets all the way through to their visual branding and has launched a new, very comprehensive, website.

International Sales & Marketing Director Sara Bullock says, “When we decided to embark on the development project for the PanoCam360 megapixel camera series with our sister company AMGPanogenics, it quickly became clear that we would need to work with a two tier branding strategy. Hence, the decision to market the transmission product ranges under the AMG Transmission Solution brand and the Camera ranges under the AMGPanogenics brand. It was a natural process to extend this philosophy to a new website design, which will hopefully make it much easier for our customers to find all the product information they need. The new site also reflects that fact that AMG has been developing an increasing number of customised solutions for specialised applications such as Remote Operating Vehicles/ Submersibles, Off Shore life safety systems, border solutions as well as battlefield asset protection.”

AMG has included a very comprehensive documentation library under downloads. The library is organised to facilitate ease of use for all relevant documents. Likewise, the product section has been enhanced with the new Camera and NVR products. AMG will now be seeking feedback from the users. Most notably the site will frequently be updated with new downloadable product documentation as well as press releases and case studies.

ELMDENE POWERS AHEAD FOR RECORD INTERSEC

Innovative electronic security and fire products manufacturer, Elmdene International Limited has had an extremely successful Intersec 2012 in Dubai, seeing footfall on its stand soar by an impressive 75% from the previous year.

Elmdene, which was exhibiting as part of the UK pavilion, was using Intersec 2012 to promote the expansion of its Vision range of PSUs (Power Supply Units) for CCTV applications, including the company's increasingly popular energy efficient and cooler- running switch mode models. The key additions to the Vision range launched at the show were the low profile VRS128000-8 and -16 and the encapsulated VRS123500-EB.

Another significant product line which grabbed the attention of visitors to Intersec 2012 was the aesthetically pleasing IR exit device. Made from durable stainless steel the buttons, which requires no direct hand contact, are an ideal access control solution for environments where the transfer of dust and germs can be problematic.

"Said Justin Roberts, Sales and Marketing Director, Elmdene International Limited: "We were certainly impressed with the visitor numbers at Intersec this year and the interest in our products, particularly the new, low-profile Vision PSUs for CCTV applications. These use high efficiency and cost effective switch mode power technology which has seen a big take up in many of the markets we operate in. For the Middle East the lower heat levels generated inside these modern units is turning out to be the most attractive feature for prospective buyers. As switch mode PSUs run cooler than established linear designs they are less susceptible to failing when faced with the high temperatures found in the region."
